Born into a family of tailors, with three generations of tailors, Master Fung began his apprenticeship at the age of 12, inheriting the traditional "Shanghai-style" cheongsam making techniques renowned for their needlework and sewing. Today, at 74 years-old, with over 60 years of experience, he is one of Hong Kong's leading professional cheongsam masters, having witnessed the rise and fall of the cheongsam in Hong Kong. His works have not only been exhibited in major local cheongsam exhibitions but are also permanently collected by the Tsuen Wan Three Houses Museum. He has also been invited by the Hong Kong Design Institute, the Garment Training Council, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and other institutions to serve as a cheongsam course instructor, generously sharing his knowledge and dedicating himself to the preservation of traditional craftsmanship.
To present the most professional and excellent traditional cheongsam making craftsmanship to cheongsam enthusiasts, Prof. Karen Chan, the founder of SPARKLE COLLECTION by German Pool, who has a special passion for cheongsams, invited Master Fung to conduct a professional cheongsam making course for the brand's employees after completing the VTC cheongsam course. Master Fung taught everything from taking measurements, fabric selection, sketch design, cutting and sewing, to needlework, promoting the cheongsam culture both internally and externally.

Before officially becoming the honorary consultant for cheongsams and qipaos at THE SPARKLE COLLECTION by German Pool, Master Fung Yau-choi personally designed two limited-edition haute couture qipaos for the brand: the mysterious black ankle-length evening qipao, 【BAUHINIA】, and the fuchsia knee-length qipao, 【BUTTERFLY】. These qipaos were showcased at CENTRESTAGE 2019, a major fashion event in Hong Kong organized by the Trade Development Council. The models wearing the qipaos were dignified and virtuous, exuding a classic charm and showcasing the female figure perfectly, embodying the essence of the fusion of Chinese and Western styles. The mysterious black ankle-length evening qipao, 【BAUHINIA】, has even been introduced to the luxury retailer Chinese Arts & Crafts.
The brand has specially included the works of Master Fung Yau-choi in the "Masterpiece Collection" as the brand's flagship product series. More works supervised by Master Fung were launched one after another, including the "In the Mood for Love" series of cheongsams with the theme of old Hong Kong sentiment, interpreting the nostalgic sentiment of narrow alleys and classical private rooms in the rainy night in the movie "In the Mood for Love". The "In the Mood for Love" series of cheongsams was also featured at the 2nd China International Import Expo held in Shanghai!
