NEXT IN CHINESE STYLE (NICS) – YOUNG DESIGNER CHALLENGE 2026
| SPARKLE CHARITY FOUNDATION x HKDI |
The 7th "NEXT IN CHINESE STYLE" is hosted by the Sparkle Charity Foundation and SPARKLE COLLECTION, co-organized by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), and sponsored by German Pool.
To promote and celebrate Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage—the art of Hong Kong Chinese cheongsam—this year's theme is "Next in Chinese Style - 1980s Hong Kong Style Outfits.” We invite participants to create "Casual Wear Future Chinese Clothing" that can be worn daily and blends Chinese and Western elements, making traditional Chinese clothing more suitable for everyday wear.
This competition invites current and former students of the HKDI Department of Fashion Image Design to use printed fabrics provided by the organizers to combine elements of fashionable Chinese-style cheongsams, Tang suits, and denim to create a fusion of East and West, shaping the future of cheongsams and Tang suits. Participants who advance to the semi-finals will be selected to walk the runway at Sparkle Collection's annual new product launch fashion show.
