NEXT IN CHINESE STYLE (NICS) – YOUNG DESIGNER CHALLENGE

NICS 2023 - "Next in Chinese Style (NICS) – Denim Casual Wear Travel Collection"

The 4th edition of "NEXT IN CHINESE STYLE" is hosted by the Sparkle Charity Foundation and SPARKLE COLLECTION, co-organized by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), and sponsored by German Pool.

To promote and celebrate the traditional cheongsam, a Hong Kong intangible cultural heritage, SPARKLE CHARITY FOUNDATION is collaborating with HKDI to host this competition, themed "Next in Chinese Style (NICS) – Denim Casual Wear Travel Series". The competition invites current and former students of HKDI’s Department of Fashion Image Design to combine Chinese fashion with traditional elements of cheongsam and Tang suit, using a fusion of Chinese and Western design concepts to reshape the future style of cheongsam and Tang suit.

NICS 2024 - "Next in Chinese Style (NICS) – Casual Wear – Beautiful HK Collection"

The 5th edition of "NEXT IN CHINESE STYLE" is hosted by the Sparkle Charity Foundation and SPARKLE COLLECTION, co-organized by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), and sponsored by German Pool.

To promote and celebrate Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage—the art of Hong Kong Chinese cheongsam—this competition will be themed "Next in Chinese Style Style (NICS) – Casual Wear – Beautiful HK Series," inviting participants to create a set of "Casual Wear Future Chinese Clothing" that can be worn daily, with a creative concept that combines Chinese and Western elements, thus making traditional Chinese clothing more suitable for everyday wear.

The 6th edition of "NEXT IN CHINESE STYLE" was hosted by the Sparkle Charity Foundation and SPARKLE COLLECTION, co-organized by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), and sponsored by German Pool.

 

To promote and celebrate Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage—the art of Hong Kong Chinese cheongsam—this competition was themed "Next in Chinese Style – Casual Wear – HK Swinging 60's," inviting participants to create a set of "Casual Wear Future Chinese Clothing" that could be worn daily and blends Chinese and Western elements, making traditional Chinese clothing more suitable for everyday wear.

The 3rd edition of "NEXT IN CHEONGSAM STYLE (NICS) - Young Designer Challenge," co-organized by SPARKLE CHARITY FOUNDATION and HKDI, invites young designers from HKDI to participate in the design of cheongsams and Tang suits. With the themes of "Next In Cheongsam (NICS)", "Denim" and "Lucky Coin", they create and shape the future style of cheongsams and Tang suits!

NICS 2021 - "Future Cheongsam" and "Denim"

The 2nd edition of "NEXT IN CHEONGSAM STYLE (NICS) - Young Designer Challenge," co-organized by SPARKLE CHARITY FOUNDATION and HKDI, invited current and former students and graduates of HKDI's fashion and image design programs to create and shape the future style of cheongsams and Tang suits with the themes of "future cheongsam" and "denim".

NICS 2020 - “Next In Cheongsam (NICS) – Young Designer Challenge”

The inaugural "NEXT IN CHEONGSAM STYLE (NICS) - Young Designer Challenge," co-organized by SPARKLE CHARITY FOUNDATION and HKDI, promotes the intangible cultural heritage of the cheongsam and attracts young fashion designers to incorporate Chinese and Western design elements and Chinese fashion elements into the cheongsam. Entries for this competition must combine Chinese and Western design elements.


Every year, SPARKLE CHARITY FOUNDATION fully sponsors the "Next In Cheongsam (NICS) – Young Designer Challenge" fashion design competition, aiming to encourage students and graduates of the HKDI Department of Fashion Image Design to fall in love with the intangible cultural heritage of cheongsam and to give us a glimpse into the future world of cheongsam design.
