CARE FOOD STANDARDS AND TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP @ HKYWCA - Jockey Club Carer Space (Sai Wan Ho)

| SPARKLE CHARITY FOUNDATION x Young Women's Christian Association of Hong Kong - Jockey Club Carer Space (Sai Wan Ho) |

With heartfelt sincerity and care, the Happy Kitchen team from German Pool visited the Young Women's Christian Association of Hong Kong - Jockey Club Carer Space in Sai Wan Ho. During the "Care Food Preparation and Technique Sharing Workshop," we interacted closely with the centre's caregivers and elderly residents, teaching them care food knowledge in a simple, easy-to-understand way, making care food preparation easier and reassuring.

The core of care foods in caregiving lies in the equal emphasis on "safety" and "nutrition," and compliance with International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) standards is paramount to ensuring the safety of caregiving meals. At the beginning of the event, the instructor explained the core content of the IDDSI standards in detail to the caregivers and elderly residents present, from food texture grading and applicable populations to how to determine whether food meets the standards and how to test them; every point was explained clearly and thoroughly. Many caregivers diligently took notes and frequently raised dietary challenges encountered in daily care, which the instructor patiently answered one by one, creating a very lively interactive atmosphere.

Besides sharing theoretical knowledge, cooking demonstrations were also a major highlight. With the help of the German Pool's high-speed food processor, two delicate, lump-free, and warm roasted soy milk (IDDSI level 2) and almond tofu (IDDSI level 4) were prepared in just over ten minutes, allowing everyone to enjoy delicious care food. They can be completed in just a few simple steps, which not only preserves the nutrition and flavor of the ingredients but also saves a lot of cooking time.

The elderly participants tasted the soft meals demonstrated and praised them, saying, "They're very fragrant and taste great, and they're easy to eat." The caregivers also benefited greatly. One caregiver shared, "I used to worry that the food I prepared wouldn't meet the elderly's needs. Today, I learned about the IDDSI standard and how to use the German Pool's high-speed food processor. With such useful equipment, I won't have to worry about making care meals at home anymore."

In the future, Happy Kitchen will continue to reach more communities, bringing more practical cooking workshops and interactive activities, conveying warmth through delicious food, easing the burden on caregivers, and ensuring that every senior can eat with peace of mind and enjoy delicious food!
